Google Fiber Construction Launches in Tempe, Bringing High-Speed Internet to More Valley

Tempe joins growing list of Arizona cities gaining access to gigabit internet service

TEMPE, Ariz. — Construction has officially begun in Tempe to bring Google Fiber’s ultra-fast internet to homes and businesses across the city, making it the fourth Valley community to gain access to the high-speed service.

Google Fiber (GFiber) offers internet plans ranging from 1 to 8 gigabits per second, with prices starting at $70 per month. The fiber-optic service uses laser technology to transmit data through strands of glass, delivering lightning-fast speeds.

City leaders, including Councilmember Randy Keating, have worked for years to bring GFiber to Tempe. “Google Fiber is a perfect match for Tempe,” Keating said, highlighting the initiative he began back in 2017.

Councilmember Berdetta Hodge also praised the development, saying the service will help bridge the digital divide, benefiting everyone from students to seniors.

With Tempe’s rollout underway, the city joins Mesa, Chandler, and Queen Creek in the growing network of Arizona municipalities adopting GFiber. Residents interested in signing up can register and get updates through Google Fiber’s website.
