PHOENIX — The city of Goodyear broke ground Thursday on an expansion project for the Rainbow Valley Water Reclamation Facility, which will double its daily water treatment capacity to two million gallons, officials announced.
The project is designed to support the city’s continued growth, which has seen its population reach nearly 117,000 residents. The upgraded facility is expected to be operational by December 2026.
“The expansion of the Rainbow Valley Water Reclamation Facility demonstrates our commitment to proactively address the needs of our growing community,” Mayor Joe Pizzillo said in a press release. “This infrastructure will take us well into the future.”
Goodyear, recognized as a leader in water management and conservation, currently operates three wastewater treatment facilities. These facilities process wastewater through a series of steps, including filtration, disinfection, and underground storage for natural filtration, before further treatment makes it suitable for reuse.
This method reduces reliance on other water sources, such as surface water, ensuring a sustainable supply for the city’s drinking water.
