Glendale Police Officer Injured After Crash With Elderly Driver

Authorities say an elderly motorist turned in front of a patrol car on Glendale Avenue, sending both drivers to the hospital.

A Glendale police officer was hospitalized Monday afternoon after a crash involving an elderly driver in the West Valley, officials said.

According to the Glendale Police Department, the officer was driving westbound on Glendale Avenue near 83rd Avenue when an elderly driver turned left in front of the patrol car, leading to a collision. Investigators said there is currently no indication that impairment played a role in the crash.

The officer suffered injuries to the shoulder and arm and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The elderly driver, whose name has not been released, was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

As of Monday afternoon, police had not determined whether any charges or citations would be issued.

This was one of two separate crashes involving police vehicles in the Valley on Monday. Earlier that morning, a Phoenix patrol SUV flipped in a two-vehicle collision on Bethany Home Road near Interstate 17, briefly shutting down the area while crews cleared the scene.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
