With the new school year around the corner, there is a wonderful opportunity for the Arizona community to give back and support local students. Threadz teen clothes closets are gearing up to ensure every student has what they need to succeed. The Threadz locations at Marcos de Niza, Tempe, and Mountain Pointe High Schools will be open on two special dates before school starts for “Back to School” shopping. These essential resources provide free items to Tempe middle and high school teens from all three Tempe school districts, helping them attend school ready to learn.
Back-to-School Shopping Dates:
- Monday, July 22: 1PM – 4PM
- Tuesday, July 23: 9AM – 12PM
Volunteers Needed: Do you have a few hours a week to help teens at one of our Threadz sites? Volunteers are crucial to the success of Threadz, and your time can make a significant impact. Learn how to volunteer by visiting their website.

Threadz teen clothes closets offer a wide selection of new and gently-used clothing, shoes, personal hygiene items, school supplies, and more. These closets are available for free to all middle and high school students in the Tempe Union High School District, Kyrene School District, and Tempe Elementary School District. All students need is their school ID to shop for the items they need to look good, feel good, and succeed in school.
History and Impact: In 2009, the Tempe Community Council (TCC) established the first teen resource center after discovering that some students were not attending school because they lacked essential items. Initially located at the Evans-Compadre campus, the center moved to Tempe High School thanks to the efforts of Tempe Leadership Class XXVIII. They transformed an empty classroom into a trendy boutique and named it Threadz.
Threadz expanded to a second site at Marcos de Niza High School in 2015 and opened a third site at Mountain Pointe High School in the Fall of 2022. Each location offers students a variety of new or gently-used clothing, shoes, new socks and underwear, personal hygiene products, backpacks, school supplies, and more.
