PHOENIX — Gilbert is embarking on a multi-year initiative to renovate its urban lakes, with the first project set to begin at Cosmo Dog Park near Ray and Higsley Roads. The beach and lake will close mid-January and remain closed through Summer 2025, according to a town announcement on Monday.
Upcoming Urban Lake Projects
The initiative extends to several other locations, including:
- Crossroads Park: Renovations expected to begin later this year, with completion targeted by the end of 2025.
- Discovery Park, McQueen Park, Municipal Center, Freestone Park, and Water Ranch: Each location will undergo upgrades as part of the comprehensive plan.
Focus on Sustainability
Gilbert officials emphasize sustainability as the driving force behind these improvements. The goal is to ensure the long-term viability of the lakes for future generations. Planned upgrades include:
- Lake dredging and liner replacements to extend the lifespan of the lakes.
- Sediment and seepage testing to improve water quality.
- Pump replacements and station reconditioning for enhanced efficiency.
- Turf removal to minimize runoff into the lakes.
- Aerator equipment installation to maintain healthy water ecosystems.
Community Involvement
Residents interested in learning more about the project are encouraged to attend a public meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Corner Ramada in Cosmo Dog Park near Ray Road and Desert Willow Drive.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into the town’s efforts to modernize and sustain these important public amenities.
With these improvements, Gilbert is investing in the future of its parks, ensuring they remain vibrant and functional spaces for residents to enjoy.
