Free Dog Adoptions Currently Available At Phoenix Animal Shelter

Free adoptions are currently available at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. This applies specifically to the west side shelter. Due to the fact that the shelter recently reached full capacity, these free adoptions will be available until numbers decline.

MCACC Shelter Sees Around 35,000 Animals Annually

Any dog over the age of 6 can be adopted, free of charge. The shelter is currently holding 700 dogs, which is roughly double the recommended capacity. It is also housing around 50 cats. MCACC recently released a statement that elaborated on how the facility ideally should not hold over 350 animals. Throughout the various facilities, a total of 35,000 dogs and cats pass through their doors annually.

4-In-1 Vaccinations Already Given To Dogs

These free adoptions will be available until the shelter is confident in managing the remaining animals. The shelter gave no specific estimate or number of animals that will be given away. MCACC has expressed that the main focus is for these animals to end up with loving families. Traditionally, adoption fees can reach up to $150. These fees are also normally waived for veterans seeking to adopt select animals. Veterans normally simply have to pay a one-time $17 license fee before adopting the animal. Dogs who pass-through MCACC receive 4-in-1 vaccinations for their safety and the safety of those who adopt them.

Those interested in adopting a dog from MCACC are encouraged to visit the shelter in person, where they can become acquainted with a dog’s personality before making a decision. The shelter is also always in need of extra volunteers, so anyone with a heart for animals is encouraged to become involved.

The West shelter is located near downtown Phoenix at 2500 S 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
