Frank Lloyd Wright Home For Sale For $12.95 million

After a joint effort between the Taliesin’s architectural school and the current owner of the Frank Lloyd Wright spiral house fell through, the home is now up for sale. Currently listed for $12.95 million, Zach Rawling, the current owner, purchased the home in 2012 for $2.3 million. The previous owner was intending to demolish the home but Rawling wanted to see the home restored.

Originally, architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the concrete block home for his son David in 1952. The three-bedroom, four-bathroom house has a total of 2,553 square feet of indoor living space. There are also several outdoor living spaces that allow for viewing of the home from various points on the 5.9-acre parcel situated in the affluent Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix.

Prior to listing the home for sale, Zach Rawling attempted other avenues to see the home preserved. He first tried to open the house as a museum, however neighbors have expressed concerns that if the property becomes a commercial attraction, the added traffic could cause additional issues in the residential area. According to the listing, an application is currently pending with the City of Phoenix regarding historic preservation.

Parties interested in the listing can contact Bob Hassett of Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. Although the listing states that the home has been partially updated, it also confirms that additional renovations and repairs are needed specifically regarding structural and electrical issues. A special bonus for the lucky buyer will be reproductions of Wright’s signature “March Balloons” carpet, custom designed for the house.

While this is not the only Frank Lloyd Wright house on the market in Phoenix, it is certainly more expensive even though it is slightly smaller than the Norman Lykes House designed by Wright. The asking price for that Phoenix home is currently $3.25 million. The Norman Lykes House is nearly 2,900-square-feet and is situated on the edge of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.
