Fox Is Down to Its Last Few Super Bowl Spots

With Super Bowl LI just days away, Fox Network is down to its last three in-game ad spots. Ad prices have jumped in recent years, and at $5 million per 30-second slice, this is the highest rate ever for a Super Bowl ad spot (though NBC is expected to announce shortly that its LII spots will go for $5.4 million). In total, Fox is expecting to earn over $400 million in in-game revenue, with likely more than 110 million viewers tuning in.

It will also likely be Fox’s highest grossing day on record. The world of Super Bowl ads is a high-stakes game in and-of-itself, and the two teams facing off – the comparatively unknown Atlanta Falcons and the tired (but favored) New England Patriots – have definitely influenced the price that Fox has been able to set for its spots. Fox saved some of its last spots hoping for a Cowboys/Patriots or Packers/Patriots matchup, which would likely have been more popular games. The network is not concerned, however, that it has remaining spots to sell – it anticipates that latecomers will likely purchase them in the next couple of days. And, fortunately for Fox, since the 100-million viewer record was broken in 2010, the actual number of game-day viewers will likely mean little more than bragging rights for the network. The current record is held by NBC, who attracted 114.4 million viewers for Super XLIX

Make sure you tune in! The game kicks off Sunday, February 5th, at 6:30 PM EST.
