Four Men Arrested After Scottsdale Drive-By Shooting Linked to Alleged Retaliation

Investigators say the April shooting targeted a short-term rental home and may have stemmed from an armed robbery earlier that night in Phoenix.

Four men have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that struck a short-term rental home in Scottsdaleearlier this spring, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, the shooting happened on April 12 near 81st Street and Pine Drive. Investigators say the home was hit multiple times by gunfire, though no injuries were reported among the people inside the residence.

Police identified the suspects as Gabriel Chiruza Lunyerere, 21; Kywan Jones, 24; Jamir Smith, 22; and Michel “Ray” Kasereka, 20. The four men are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy, discharging a firearm within city limits and discharging a firearm at a residence.

Authorities believe the shooting was tied to retaliation for an armed robbery that allegedly occurred in Phoenix earlier that same evening.

“Our detectives, analysts, tactical teams, and support personnel did outstanding work in identifying and arresting those responsible for this dangerous shooting,” Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc said in a statement.

Investigators said the arrests followed an extensive investigation involving surveillance footage, forensic evidence, social media search warrants and cooperation with partner law enforcement agencies. During the execution of several search warrants, officers also recovered multiple firearms believed to be connected to the case.

The investigation remains ongoing.
