Morning collision at busy downtown intersection sends multiple people to the hospital, police investigating

PHOENIX — Four people, including three children, were hospitalized in critical condition Monday morning following a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Phoenix, officials said.

The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Van Buren Street, one of the city’s major cross streets, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. First responders arrived quickly to find a chaotic scene involving multiple vehicles and severely injured individuals.

A woman trapped in one of the cars had to be extricated by firefighters before being rushed to the hospital. She, along with the three injured children, remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not released the ages or identities of the injured children. Details on the cause of the crash have not yet been disclosed.

The Phoenix Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident. Officials have not confirmed how many vehicles were involved or whether any arrests or citations have been issued.
