Following Recent Facebook Hack, Learn How To Remain Protected

In a recent Facebook hacking, between 50 and 90 million users were exposed as a result.

It was discovered that hackers exploited Facebook’s “View As” feature, which allows users to see how their profile appears to someone else.

“The bottom line is that if you try to access Facebook and it does not require to log back in, then you were basically not affected,” Ken Colburn with Data Doctors told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The recent hacking event is further proof that Facebook users must be aware of their actions on the internet.

Facebook announced that it has taken steps to fix the security problem, along with having alerted law enforcement.

“Don’t use the same password on all your online accounts,” Colburn said.

The two major tips for users being more protective of their accounts include refraining from sharing your birthdate online and using a two-factor authentication.

“I know a lot of people love having the whole world wishing them a happy birthday on their birthday. But that is a very significant piece of information that can be used against you,” Colburn added.

Colburn said the two-factor authentication tool “uses your smart phone to verify a login from a strange location.”

This protects users and makes them aware if they have fallen victim to a hack. Users can then either shut down their page or change their password before anything gets exposed.
