A Fourth of July celebration at Glendale’s Westgate Entertainment District was disrupted Saturday night when gunfire injured five juveniles, prompting a large police response at one of the Valley’s busiest entertainment destinations.
Glendale police responded around 9 p.m. to reports of a shooting near Glendale and 91st avenues. Officers found five juvenile victims, all of whom were transported to local hospitals with injuries that authorities said were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators have not announced any arrests, and the suspected shooter remained at large as of Saturday night. Police said preliminary evidence indicates the shooting was an isolated incident and not a random attack on the public. Reports from the scene indicated that at least two of the people involved were acquainted, though investigators have not released additional details about what led to the gunfire.
The shooting occurred during one of the busiest nights of the year at the Westgate Entertainment District, where thousands of residents and visitors gathered to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Glendale police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department as detectives work to identify those responsible.
