An early-morning altercation in Phoenix turned violent Sunday when a fight escalated into gunfire, leaving five people injured, according to authorities.
Police say the incident unfolded around 5 a.m. near a QuikTrip convenience store at 29th Avenue and Bell Road. Investigators with the Phoenix Police Department believe multiple shots were fired during the confrontation.
When officers arrived, they found an adult woman and a juvenile girl suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital and are reported to have serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
In addition to the two shooting victims, three other adults were located at the scene with minor injuries. Officials said those individuals did not require hospitalization.
Detectives are continuing to piece together what led to the violence and are urging anyone with information — including video footage — to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to police or anonymously through Silent Witness.
The shooting remains under active investigation as authorities work to identify those involved and determine what sparked the incident.
