Eric Claptons 1964 Gibson Guitar in Scottsdale Auction

Eric Clapton’s 1964 ES-345TD Gibson guitar and 85 other musical instruments are up for auction beginning tomorrow at J. Levine Auction & Appraisal. The three-day auction will begin on Thursday, October 27 and carry through Saturday, October 29.

Clapton’s guitar is a semi-hollow body electric guitar with a mahogany body, laminated maple top, and a rosewood fretboard. It features two humbucking pickups and a sunburst finish. It’s believed George Harrison gifted this guitar to Clapton in 1966 or 1967.

John Levine, J. Levine owner, guitar collector and auctioneer, said the auction house has received interest on the items up for bid from collectors worldwide. Online bidding has already begun on Levine’s website and will continue through the live auction on Saturday.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own one of Eric Clapton’s guitars,” Levine said. “The Gibson 1964 ES-345 that we will auction comes with strong provenance. It was purchased at auction in 1999 and displayed at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix for many years.”

Eric Clapton’s guitar is one of more than two dozen guitars collected by Phoenix guitar collector Jeff Covill.
