Elderly Couple Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide in East Phoenix

Police say 81-year-old man fatally shot his wife before taking his own life

PHOENIX – An elderly couple was found dead Monday afternoon in what police believe was a murder-suicide at a residence in east Phoenix.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to a shooting call around 3:20 p.m. near 43rd Street and Camelback Road. When they arrived, they discovered 81-year-old Mark Trewhella and 80-year-old Charlotte Trewhella with gunshot wounds.

Charlotte was pronounced dead at the scene. Mark was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives believe Mark shot Charlotte before turning the gun on himself. The motive remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
