Early voting by Latinos puts Arizona ahead of the nation

Early ballots were sent to registered Arizona voters through the mail on October 12.  Voters have an opportunity to vote for their local officials as well as the president.  The office for president is the first thing listed on the partisan ballot.

Today Democratic nominee for vice president Tim Kaine will be in Phoenix to deliver a speech in Spanish with hopes of capturing the Latino vote for Hillary Clinton for president.  This speech may come a little too late, however; as many Latino voters have already mailed their ballots back making this election the largest early voting turnout by Latinos in any state.  Latinos make up 13% of early voters, up from 11% in the 2012 presidential election.  Arizona leads second place Nevada and third place Colorado with major increases in early voting by the Latino community according to the Catalist.

As of November 1st, Latinos have nearly doubled the turnout of this election compared to 2012.  With over 1.37 million early ballots already received out of the 2.3 million sent out, early voters have wasted no time in casting their ballot.  Arizona has 3.5 million registered voters which means over a third of the state has already voted.  Over 178,000 Latinos are included in those who have returned their ballot.

Hillary Clinton just gave a speech to thousands of Arizona residents in Tempe on November 2nd while Mike Pence gave a speech in Mesa the same day in an attempt to gain as many votes as possible in the last surge before election day.  With the race coming to an end in just a few short days, one third of Arizona’s registered voters have already made up their mind.  Continue to follow us as we present the latest breaking news story for your 2016 presidential and congressional race.
