A quiet Wednesday morning in Phoenix turned tragic when a fire ripped through an apartment near Interstate 17 and Indian School Road, killing two dogs and sending three people — including a police officer — to the hospital.
Fire crews rushed to the scene around 5 a.m. after reports of smoke pouring from a single-story apartment building on West Glenrosa Avenue, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke and immediately began working to contain the flames before they could spread to neighboring units.
Two residents and a police officer were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation, officials said. Sadly, two dogs were discovered dead inside the apartment.
No firefighters were hurt during the response, and investigators are now working to determine what caused the fire.
