A hit-and-run crash in west Phoenix left three people hospitalized in the early hours of Saturday morning, with one victim fighting for his life while the driver who allegedly caused the collision remains at large.
Emergency crews responded just before 2 a.m. to the intersection of 61st Avenue and Indian School Road, where they found two vehicles that had collided. One of the drivers had already fled the scene on foot, abandoning a male passenger who was still inside the car. That passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the second vehicle — a man and a woman — were also taken to the hospital, though their injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
Preliminary findings from Phoenix police suggest the fleeing driver crossed into oncoming traffic before striking the second car, triggering the collision. Whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash has not yet been determined.
Investigators are now searching for the driver who walked away, and are asking anyone with information to contact Silent Witness at 480-948-6377, or 480-837-8446 for Spanish-speaking callers. Tips may be submitted anonymously.
