U.S. Attorney’s Office intensifies crackdown under Operation Take Back America

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Federal prosecutors in Arizona charged 266 individuals with immigration-related crimes between June 7 and June 13, 2025, in a weeklong enforcement sweep.

The majority of the charges involved illegal re-entry into the United States (108 cases) and illegal entry (140 cases). Additionally, 16 cases were filed against 18 individuals accused of smuggling migrants into or within the District of Arizona.

Federal law enforcement agencies supporting the effort included ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Border Patrol, DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and ATF.

Notable Cases:

  • Fernando Alvin Robles was charged after attempting to flee the I-19 immigration checkpoint with a Guatemalan national hidden in his trunk. He was charged with transporting illegal aliens for profit and illegal re-entry.

  • Jesus Maldonado-Cortez led Border Patrol agents on a pursuit through rural terrain before abandoning his vehicle. He was later found with a group of undocumented individuals and charged, along with Jessie Pacheco Jose and Miguel Alejandro Abril-Miramon, for illegal re-entry and alien smuggling.

This enforcement surge was part of Operation Take Back America, a federal initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling smuggling networks, and reducing violent crime by targeting transnational criminal organizations.
