Defamation Complaint Filed By Joe Arpaio Against Multiple Media Outlets

A former Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio has filed a defamation complaint against several media companies, including CNN and Rolling Stone magazine, and is seeking at least $300,000 in damages.

The complaint was filed in federal court on Monday night in Washington, D.C.

According to the suit, Arpaio has portrayed in a “false light” after being repeatedly referenced as a convicted felon.

“I’m very disgusted with some of the media — defamation — calling me a convicted felon, that I went to prison. I’m ready to fight back.”

CNN referred to Arpaio as a “convicted felon” around Jan. 10, 2018, as was stated in the filed paperwork.

In July 2017, Arpaio was found guilty of misdemeanor contempt after having continuously done immigration sweeps over a year after he was ordered to stop by a judge.

Arpaio was then pardoned the following month by President Donald Trump.

At 86-years-old, Arpaio filed a suit against the New York Times in October for defaming him in an opinion piece.

“There’s more to come,” Arpaio said. “There’s a lot of bias against this sheriff.”

Also named in the suit were Huffington Post, and CNN executive Jeff Zukcer and anchor Chris Cuomo.

A Huffington Post article, said that Arpaio had been “sent to prison for contempt of court,” while Rolling Stone called Arpaio an ex-felon.

“(We’ll) see what happens,” Arpaio said. “Even if they apologize, so what? The word is out … they can’t take it back.”
