Couple Murdered in Phoenix Leads Police to Kansas, Suspect Killed in Shootout

Authorities are reporting that a Phoenix murder suspect has been apprehended in Kansas after a shootout with local police.

On Sunday afternoon, Phoenix police responded to an injured person call near 51st Avenue and Warner Street.  Police discovered the brutal scene of a double murder.  A young, mother and father were found shot to death inside the home Sunday,

The victims were identified as 28-year-old Cameron Brown and 27-year-old Asya Ribble.

Inside the home with the bodies, police found their two small children unharmed, a 2-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy.

During the investigation, authorities identified Leroy D. Malone, 39, of Phoenix Leroy Malone as the suspect and leads said he was traveling with an adult female. Detectives were able to track both Malone and the woman out of state.

Phoenix detectives reached out to agencies nationwide with the description of Malone and the woman and the case.

It didn’t take long for the suspects to be located on Monday near Minneola, Kansas.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigations reported that Clark County deputies located Malone and attempted to stop his vehicle but he fled police. Kansas Highway Patrol joined deputies in pursuing the vehicle. When the vehicle was eventually stopped in Dodge City, Kansas, confrontation occurred between law enforcement and Malone.

Two deputies from the Ford County Sheriff’s Office were shot. One was taken to a hospital in serious condition and the other is said to be in “good condition,” according to the KBI.

As a result, Malone was shot multiple times and was killed. The woman he was with was critically wounded. She is reportedly the female victim Asya Ribble’s sister.

During the shootout, two deputies from the Ford County Sheriff’s Office were shot. One officer was taken to the hospital in serious condition and the other is reportedly in good condition. A third deputy who was also shot and is in serious condition at a hospital.

Police reported that Malone has a lengthy criminal record. He has served time in jail for aggravated assault and armed robbery. Malone was also recently indicted by a grand jury on alleged aggravated assault charges from September of 2022.

The motive behind the murder is unclear. An investigation remains ongoing.
