A workplace dispute at a construction site near State Farm Stadium in Glendale turned violent Thursday morning, leaving one worker in critical condition and prompting an ongoing police investigation.

According to the Glendale Police Department, the incident unfolded near 91st Avenue and Cardinals Way when an argument between two workers escalated into a shooting. Authorities say one of the individuals involved discharged a firearm during the confrontation, striking the other worker.

The alleged shooter remained at the scene and contacted police, claiming the act was in self-defense. Officers detained the individual without incident and transported him for questioning as detectives began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

Emergency responders rushed the injured worker to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.

The shooting occurred just hours before a large gathering was set to take place nearby, as fans prepared for the Arizona Cardinals’ NFL Draft Party on the Great Lawn outside the stadium.
