GRAND CANYON, AZ – The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a fatality along the Colorado River at Poncho’s Kitchen, near river mile 137, on the morning of September 7. Park rangers responded to the scene and identified the victim as Patrick Horton, a 59-year-old resident of Salida, Colorado.
Horton was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip along the Colorado River when members of his party discovered him deceased. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
At this time, no further details have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. The National Park Service will provide updates as more information becomes available.
