A 27-year-old Colorado man died Sunday after his vehicle went over the rim of the Grand Canyon near the South Kaibab Trailhead, according to park officials.
The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received the emergency call just after 12:40 p.m. Rangers and technical rescue teams responded immediately and located the vehicle’s sole occupant, identified as Steven “Drew” Bradley of Federal Heights, Colorado, about 300 feet below the rim.
His body was recovered by helicopter and later transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The National Park Service is leading an investigation into the incident in coordination with the medical examiner. Officials have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Park authorities remind visitors that help is available for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Anyone in distress can dial or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for confidential, 24/7 support.
