Cold Stone Opens its First Ice Cream Shop in India

Cold Stone Creamery has opened its first location in India, with plans to open 40 more stores in in the country and five in Sri Lanka over the next five years.

Scottsdale-based Cold Stone Creamery will sell its ice cream in the Lulu Mall, a premier shopping center in the city of Kochi.

There’s no word on whether Cold Stone plans to develop curry-flavored ice cream.

“This location is just one of many that will open here in India and we are thrilled at the initial response from the community,” said Eddy Jimenez, Cold Stone senior vice president of international operations and development.

Kahala Brands, parent company of the ice cream brand, teamed up with Tablez Food Co., part of Lulu Group International, to bring Cold Stone ice cream to India.

Cold Stone Creamery® has continued to expand in international markets in recent years. That overseas growth began in November 2005 with a store in Tokyo. Cold Stone has 300 international locations in nearly 30 countries, including Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, Trinidad, Brazil, Nigeria, Egypt, Canada and Indonesia.

Kahala Brands has a portfolio of 18 quick-service restaurant concepts. The company’s Cold Stone Creamery brand operates about 1,500 locations.
