PHOENIX — Containment on the Cody Fire, burning southeast of Oracle, has grown to 83% as of Monday morning, with evacuation orders eased for much of the community north of Tucson, according to fire officials.
The fire, which ignited around 3:30 p.m. on May 21, has burned 1,223 acres, but no new growth was reported overnight. Fire crews increased from 503 personnel on Sunday to 573 on Monday.
Evacuation Status:
One zone in Oracle remains under “GO” status, meaning mandatory evacuation.
Another is in “SET” status, encouraging residents to be ready to evacuate if needed.
Most zones have been downgraded, and residents are now encouraged to resume normal daily activities.
Resources and Closures:
Evacuation centers remain open at Canyon Del Oro High School in Oro Valley and the Mammoth Community Center.
While some roads have reopened, parts of Cody Loop Road are still closed.
A Coronado National Forest closure is in effect, impacting areas including the Arizona Trail and the Santa Catalina Ranger District.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The town of Oracle, with a population of about 3,000, sits roughly 35 miles north of Tucson. Much of Arizona remains under Stage 2 fire restrictions due to hot, dry conditions.
