Closures On Interstate 17

If you plan to travel Interstate 17 in the next few months, you may experience some delays.

More than a dozen closures will be happening from May To November. Crews will be building new interchanges at Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads.

According to ADOT, much of the closures will be overnight and on weekends. There are already two lane closures that will be in effect until fall 2020. The closures are: northbound HOV lane between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads; and southbound HOV lane between Jomax and Pinnacle Peak roads.

Crews are currently pouring concrete for two 19-foot tall piers in the center of I-17, which will support the Pinnacle Peak overpass. Girders will be built in mid-May. So far, crews have been relocating utilities, altering drainage patterns, and building up embankments.

The project is estimated to cost $50-million, and it will replace the Happy Valley roundabout. The “diverging diamond interchange” is expected to increase safety and capacity. The new Pinnacle Peak Road interchange will be a traditional diamond interchange that will increase capacity. In addition to the interchange, a fourth lane will be added between Deer Valley and Happy Valley roads.
