In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon storms, the City of Phoenix is offering free sand to residents for use in creating sandbags. This proactive measure is designed to help residents protect their homes and properties from potential flooding caused by severe weather. Large roll-off bins filled with sand are now accessible at the following convenient park locations:
- District 1: Paseo Highlands Park – 3435 W. Pinnacle Peak Rd.
- District 2: Paradise Valley Park – 17642 N. 40th St.
- District 3: Moon Valley Park – 502 W. Coral Gables Dr.
- District 4: Encanto Park Sports Complex – 2121 N. 15th Ave.
- District 5: El Oso Park – 3451 N. 75th Ave.
- District 6: Pecos Park – 17010 S. 48th St.
- District 7: Cesar Chavez Park – 7858 S. 35th Ave.
- District 8: Esteban Park – 3345 E. Roeser Rd.
Sandbags are an effective tool for damming or diverting floodwater away from homes and other structures during monsoon thunderstorms. While the City of Phoenix is providing sand at no charge, residents must bring their own bags and shovels to these locations. The sand will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last, so residents are encouraged to act quickly to ensure they have what they need.
“We understand the challenges monsoon storms can pose, and we’re committed to helping our community stay safe and prepared,” said Alex Garcia, Director of Phoenix Public Works. “By providing sand at these key locations, we aim to assist residents in safeguarding their properties against potential flooding.”
In addition to providing sand, the Public Works Department offers several services to assist residents in clearing away debris following a storm. This includes guidance on proper disposal and cleanup efforts to help communities recover quickly and efficiently.
Residents are urged to stay informed about weather updates and to take necessary precautions as the monsoon season progresses. For more information on storm preparedness and available resources, please visit the City of Phoenix’s official website or contact the Public Works Department directly.
