The City of Phoenix will observe the New Year’s holiday on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, prompting modified schedules and temporary closures for several city services.
Residential trash and recycling pickup will pause for the holiday, with collections shifting back by one day. Thursday routes will be serviced Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday routes will move to Saturday, Jan. 3. City-operated transfer stations on 27th Avenue and at North Gateway will also be closed for the day.
The Public Works Customer Contact Center will not be open on New Year’s Day, though residents can continue submitting service requests through the city’s myPHX311 online portal. Phone service resumes at 7 a.m. Friday.
All locations of Phoenix Public Library will be closed Jan. 1, while digital resources and book drops remain available. Parking meter enforcement will continue as normal from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., including on the holiday.
City recreation centers will close early on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day. Parks and trails, however, will stay open during regular hours. The S’edav Va’aki Museum will also be closed.
Public transportation operated by Valley Metro will run on a Sunday schedule, with no Express or RAPID bus service. Several transit centers, including Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope, and Central Station, will be closed. Dial-a-Ride service will remain available by reservation.
Travelers using Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are encouraged to plan ahead, reserve parking early, and allow extra time for security screening amid ongoing REAL ID enforcement. Flight status, parking availability, and checkpoint wait times can be checked online before heading to the airport.
