The City of Phoenix will observe Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 13, with several offices and services closing in recognition of the holiday.
City officials confirmed that trash and recycling collection will continue as scheduled, with no changes to curbside service during the holiday week. However, the city’s 27th Avenue and North Gateway transfer stations will not be open on Monday.
The Public Works Customer Contact Center will also be closed, reopening at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14. Residents needing assistance can call 602-262-6251 once the center resumes operations.
Phoenix Public Library locations will close for the day, except for the South Mountain Community Library, which operates under a different partnership. Book drops and digital resources remain available through phoenixpubliclibrary.org.
Parking enforcement will not be suspended; meters remain active from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays. The city’s 24/7 hotline will remain available for urgent street issues, such as signal outages or pothole concerns.
In parks and recreation, community centers will close for the day, though city parks and hiking trails remain open. Officials encourage residents to review the city’s “Take a Hike. Do it Right.” safety guidelines before heading out. The S’edav Va’aki Museum will also be closed.
Public transit will operate on a Sunday schedule, with no Express or RAPID bus service. Valley Metro’s Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope, and Central Station transit centers will close, while Dial-a-Ride will be available by reservation between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. More details are available at ValleyMetro.org.
Travelers heading to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are advised to reserve parking in advance and arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures. Passengers can check real-time security wait times on the airport’s website or at terminal displays. The airport also encourages use of its PHX Reserve program, which allows travelers to schedule TSA screening times in advance.
For assistance at the airport, Navigator volunteers—easily identified in purple uniforms—will be on hand to help guide travelers through terminals.
