Cities Giving Free COVID-19 Rapid Test Kits Ahead Of The Holidays

We are just days away from Christmas and families are busy planning their time together to celebrate the holidays. Several cities across the valley want to help mitigate the spread of the virus and are giving away free COVID-19 rapid test kits to anyone who might need them.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health is providing the test kits. The goal of health officials is to make sure that people have access to tests, to protect their own health and the health of their loved ones.

The city of Tempe is scheduled to distribute the BinaxNOW self-test kits starting Tuesday at various locations. Each home kit will contain two rapid tests that provide results to the patients in 15 minutes.

The city of Mesa will also distribute the BinaxNOW COVID-19 test kits free to the public. They’re available only through curbside pickup Mondays through Saturdays at the following city libraries.

No proof of residency or ID will be required to obtain the test kits. Each household will be able to get one test kit. The tests are for Mesa and Tempe residents, however people living in other valley cities will not be turned away, a test will be given.

Those who test positive with an at-home test are encouraged to self-report their results to their primary care doctors or directly to the county health department at 602-506-6767.
