PHOENIX — A family dispute turned violent on Christmas night at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, leaving three people with gunshot wounds and another stabbed, according to police.
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at a Terminal 4 restaurant outside the security perimeter. Police responding to the scene found three gunshot victims and later detained a juvenile female and a man in the parking garage. The man, who had a stab wound, was also hospitalized.
Victim Conditions
Authorities reported that one woman shot during the altercation is in critical condition, while two men with gunshot wounds and the stabbing victim are in stable condition.
Incident Details
“This was a family dispute that escalated,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Mayra Reeson. All five individuals involved were known to each other, and no additional suspects are being sought. Police have recovered weapons and are continuing their investigation.
The altercation temporarily shut down the security checkpoint at Terminal 4 and forced the closure of all restaurants in the area. Airport operations resumed shortly after the incident was contained.
Added Confusion
Adding to the chaos, a man who heard misinformation about a possible active shooter arrived at the airport armed. He was detained by police after an altercation, unrelated to the initial family dispute.
“There are no active threats at the airport,” Reeson confirmed.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Flights were not affected, and airport operations returned to normal shortly thereafter.
