A family outing near Anthem ended in tragedy Saturday night when a golf cart carrying three children overturned at a residence, killing one child.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 11:04 p.m. near New River and Saddle Mountain roads. A family member was driving the cart when it rolled over, with the three children riding together on a bench seat.
One child suffered fatal injuries. Authorities have not released the child’s age or other identifying information.
Investigators have not said what caused the golf cart to overturn, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The incident is a reminder that golf carts can present serious injury risks even when they are being operated away from public roads, particularly when children are riding in them.
