Chandler Unified School District Bus Driver Arrested for Suspected DUI With Driving Students

It is unimaginable and a parent’s nightmare. A Chandler Unified School District bus driver was arrested for a suspected DUI on Thursday afternoon, with students on the bus at the time of his arrest.

The school district sent a letter home to parents with information that the bus had nine students from Hamilton High School on board when the driver was pulled over by police. According to officials, the suspect, identified as 52-year-old Bryan Diel.

The bus driver was then cited and taken into custody.

The students on board were then given alternative transportation by the CUSD transportation department.

The school district driver has been placed on administrative leave per district policy and a new driver has been assigned to that route. Diel was hired as a bus driver on June 12, 2014.

Both CUSD and the Chandler Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
