CHANDLER, Ariz. — Police in Chandler seized nearly 400 pounds of methamphetamine that was concealed in bags of onions, officials announced Thursday.
The discovery came during a traffic stop near Interstate 10 and Riggs Road, where officers pulled over a vehicle and found the large stash of narcotics hidden among produce.
Claudio Hernandez Perez was arrested at the scene and is facing charges related to transporting a dangerous drug for sale, according to the Chandler Police Department.
Authorities say the bust was made with assistance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security Investigations.
Photos released by police show bundles of methamphetamine disguised in large onion sacks, a method believed to be used to avoid detection during transport.
The investigation is ongoing. No additional details have been released.
