Chandler Police Officer Fatally Shoots Knife-Wielding Man During Domestic Violence Call

Authorities Say Suspect Ignored Commands and Charged at Officer Before Being Shot

PHOENIX — A Chandler police officer shot and killed a 27-year-old man armed with a knife Thursday afternoon while responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area near Chandler Boulevard and Hamilton Street around 12:15 p.m. after several 911 callers reported a neighbor seeking help following an argument with a family member.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect outside holding a knife, according to the Chandler Police Department. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, police said the man refused and then ran toward an officer.

That’s when the officer fired, striking the man. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident. Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
