Chandler families in need of larger affordable housing units will have a narrow window this spring to get on the city’s public housing waitlist, with pre-applications opening April 3rd and closing at noon on April 17th.
The city will accept pre-applications for three-, four- and five-bedroom units, but availability is limited. Once the submission period closes, 350 qualifying applicants will be selected at random through a lottery process. Those not chosen will need to reapply when the waitlist reopens in the future.
The current waitlist covers existing housing sites. A separate waitlist specifically for the Villas on McQueen development is expected to open in late April.
To be eligible, applicants must fall within the program’s income limits, which scale by household size. A single-person household must earn no more than $62,850 annually, while the ceiling rises incrementally with each additional household member — reaching $132,850 for a ten-person household. Tenants accepted into the program pay 30 percent of their monthly adjusted income toward rent.
Applications can be requested by email, phone or downloaded as a PDF from the city’s website. Completed forms can be submitted in person at designated drop-off locations — including after-hours sites — or sent by mail or email. Applicants must also create an online account through the Apply for Chandler Housing portal. All components of the application must be completed and submitted by the April 17th noon deadline to be considered.
Full details on how to apply are available on the city of Chandler’s website.
