Chandler City Council Renews Chandler Flex Ride-Share Program Through 2027

$3.3 million contract extension includes federal funding boost for popular transit service

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Chandler City Council has approved a two-year contract renewal for Chandler Flex, the city’s app-based, on-demand shared ride service. The agreement with River North Transit, LLC (Via) extends operations through June 30, 2027, at a cost not to exceed $3.315 million.

Originally launched in July 2022, Chandler Flex has provided over 100,000 trips, earning an average 4.9-star rider rating and high public satisfaction. Riders use a smartphone app to request minivan pickups and are dropped off close to their destinations, often sharing rides with others.

Funding for the renewed contract includes a $1 million Congressionally-Directed Spending grant secured by Rep. Greg Stanton, covering up to half the program’s operational costs. The first two years were funded by a state grant from A for Arizona Transportation Modernization.

“Good transit drives economic development,” Stanton said. “Chandler needs flexible and affordable last-mile transportation options, and I was proud to help bring federal funding to extend Chandler Flex.”

The service area is bounded by Chandler Boulevard (north), Price Road (west), Chandler Heights Road (south), and McQueen Road (east).

Mayor Kevin Hartke praised the renewal, saying, “The City of Chandler is proving itself to be a leader in providing reliable, convenient and safe transit options. Chandler Flex continues to deliver much-needed transportation access for residents, students, workers, and visitors alike.”
