Casa Grande to house new electric car plant

According to an announcement made by Governor Doug Ducey, an electric car manufacturing facility will soon make its home in Casa Grande. Ducey stated that the $700 million manufacturing facility plans to employ 2,000 full-time workers.

Ducey announced California-based Lucid Motors chose Casa Grande as the site for its next manufacturing facility on Tuesday afternoon. The facility is said to focus on building Lucid Motors’ luxury electric cars.

“Tech companies from around the globe continue to discover Arizona. Our appeal is our endless drive to be the best,” stated Ducey.

The manufacturing plant will be located on 500-acres of land in Casa Grande, near Peters and Thorton Roads.

Brian Barron, director of Global Manufacturing at Lucid Motors, stated that the company looked at over 60 potential manufacturing sites before choosing Arizona. Barron also stated that construction on the facility will start in 2017. The recruitment process for selecting employees has already begun.

Production on Lucid Motors’ first car is set to begin in 2018.

Casa Grande has been in the process of bringing more jobs to the community over the past five years, said Casa Grande Mayor Bob Jackson. Mayor Jackson also stated that the city has been working to bring more growth to the region. Jackson noted that Lucid Motors is just one example of the city’s efforts.

Mayor Bob Jackson also said that a strong collaborative relationship between Lucid Motors, Gov. Ducey’s office, Arizona Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake, the Arizona Commerce Authority, Pinal County and the City of Casa Grande was necessary to bring this deal to fruition.

Ducey recently met with Lucid Motors at their headquarters in Silicon Valley while he was in the area.

“As this announcement shows, we can stand toe-to-toe in attracting the kind of good paying manufacturing jobs that every state in the nation is hungry for,” stated Ducey.
