Cardinals’ Running Back and Wife Donate Locker to Ryan House

Arizona Cardinals Running Back, David Johnson and his wife, Meghan have donated their fourth “David’s Locker” to the Phoenix charity, Ryan House.

“We found out they were in need of it and we wanted to help,” David said. “From talking around, we figured out this was a great fit for the locker.”

According to their website, the mission of Ryan House is, “To create a replicable model of world-class caregiving that provides respite and palliative care for children and their families as they navigate life-limiting or end-of-life journeys.”

“We’re really excited about having David’s Locker here at Ryan House,” Tracy Leonard-Warner, executive director of Ryan House, said. “It’ll give our kids and families access to technology that we don’t currently have.”

David’s Locker is a portable locker filled with technology for patients and their families. There are noise-cancelling headphones, iPads, Nintendo Switches and an array of video games. The Johnson’s goal is to help hospitals needs of technology on isolated floors. David’s Locker is part of the Johnson’s charity, “Johnson Family’s Mission 31,” which helps severely sick children as well as their families.

Leonard-Warner also mentioned that these devices will be an amazing way for children in hospice to be able to video chat with family members who are unable to come visit them.

We wanted to see what the community didn’t have and what we could put in children’s hospitals and things like that to really impact the community and help families as much as we can,” Meghan said. “The children’s faces when David walks in, they’re just so excited, but not just that, they’re excited to see the technology.”

The first David’s Locker was revealed back in April of 2018. It was given to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

In September of 2018, the second David’s Locker was donated to the Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

The third was given to the Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School’s Special Needs Program this past April.

“Now that we’re parents and we have the support and resources in the Phoenix area, we wanted to provide the same thing to children and families in need,” David said.

David hopes to continue to expand this program into the state where he attended college, Iowa.
