Car Crash at Apache Junction Elks Lodge Injures 30, Driver in Custody for DUI

73-Year-Old Driver Faces Charges After Alcohol-Related Collision; Multiple Injured, One in Critical Condition

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ – A car crash at Elks Lodge #2349 in Apache Junction left 30 people injured on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at 8:27 p.m. when 73-year-old Thomas Edward Kain, the driver of the vehicle, collided into the building located at 2455 N Apache Trail.

Of the 30 injured, ten individuals were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, while fifteen others were treated on the scene for minor injuries. At least five additional people drove themselves to hospitals with minor injuries. One individual remains in critical but stable condition.

Kain, who had been at the Elks Lodge before the crash, was taken into custody after authorities confirmed alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. According to investigators, Kain accidentally drove his truck into the building as he was leaving. The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control is conducting a separate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“This unfortunate event highlights the dangers of drinking and driving,” said an Apache Junction Police spokesperson. “We are grateful that there were no fatalities, but this incident serves as a serious reminder of the risks alcohol imposes on a driver’s ability to make safe decisions.”

Authorities urge the public to remember the importance of planning ahead for a safe ride home if drinking, and to encourage others to do the same.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
