Bus Service in Phoenix Partially Restored to Pre-Pandemic Levels

On Monday, the city of Phoenix partially restored its bus service to levels before the coronavirus pandemic began.

The Phoenix City Council on Friday approved the return of morning routes to a 4 a.m. start on the weekdays and a 5 a.m. start on weekends.

The RAPID bus service was also reinstated for the Interstate 17 route, with one inbound trip in the morning and one outbound trip in the afternoon.

More RAPID routes could be added based on ridership numbers, the city of Phoenix said in a press release.

Additional changes were also made to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Social distancing will be enforced by making some seats unavailable to riders. Previously, ridership was limited to a certain number of individuals per bus.

Other safety measures and cleaning protocols implemented at the start of the pandemic will remain in place.

Face coverings also remain mandatory on all public transit services.
