Buckeye Man Gets 8-Year Prison Sentence for Violent Kidnapping and Apartment Crash

Incident endangered six people, including four children, officials say

BUCKEYE, AZ — A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a violent domestic incident that ended with an SUV crashing into a Buckeye family’s apartment, injuring a child and causing significant property damage.

Authorities say the incident began on Sept. 2, 2024, when Keith Auzenne got into an argument with his girlfriend as she drove her SUV. When she tried to leave the vehicle, Auzenne prevented her from getting out, forced her into the back seat, and took the wheel. Investigators reported that he sped through city streets, reaching 104 mph while holding his girlfriend down so she couldn’t escape.

During the high-speed drive, Auzenne struck a curb, sending the SUV airborne for more than 50 feet before smashing through a block wall. The vehicle continued flying another 59 feet before crashing into the porch of an apartment near Baseline and Miller roads. Six people — including four children — were inside when the SUV slammed into the building, shattering glass and damaging structural supports. One child suffered cuts to the foot from broken glass.

After the crash, Auzenne fled, leaving his injured girlfriend behind. Police later found him and learned he had used methamphetamine earlier that day. He admitted to investigators that he had considered crashing into a diesel truck before changing his mind.

He pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated assault, and unlawful use of means of transportation. Once his prison term is complete, Auzenne will serve four years of probation. Officials emphasized that the case underscores the severe consequences of endangering others through reckless and violent behavior.
