Body Found After Submerged Truck Emerges at Lake Powell

Low water levels expose missing man’s vehicle nearly two years after his disappearance

PAGE, Ariz. — Authorities say low water levels at Lake Powell revealed a submerged pickup truck containing human remains near the Arizona-Utah border.

Investigators confirmed the truck belonged to a 54-year-old man reported missing in December 2023. While the remains have not yet been identified, officials are treating the case as an active death investigation.

Discovery at Lone Rock Beach

Over Labor Day weekend, people spotted the truck just below the water line at Lone Rock Beach in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Crews pulled the vehicle from the water on Wednesday.

Officials noted that since the man’s disappearance, Lake Powell’s water level has dropped about 20 feet, the result of years of ongoing drought.

Background and comparisons

The truck’s owner was last seen in Kanab, Utah, on Dec. 1, 2023. Investigators say human remains have also surfaced at other drought-stricken lakes in the region, including Lake Mead, where multiple bodies were discovered in 2022 as water levels reached historic lows.
