PHOENIX — Bird flu has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Maricopa County, marking the third detection of the virus in Arizona this year, state agriculture officials said Monday.
The Arizona Department of Agriculture emphasized that the risk to the general public remains low, with those in direct contact with infected birds facing the greatest risk. No human illnesses have been reported, and officials confirmed that eggs from the affected flock have not entered the food supply.
The farm has been placed under quarantine, and sanitation measures are underway to contain and eliminate the spread of the virus.
The latest case was detected after birds began showing signs of illness on May 29. Samples were tested by the Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Lab and confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory.
This is the second confirmed case in Maricopa County within the last two weeks.
