PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) is calling on animal lovers to step up and become “Foster Heroes” by providing temporary homes for pets in need. Whether it’s a dog, cat, or even a rabbit, fostering gives these animals a chance to heal, grow, and find their forever homes, while also alleviating the strain on shelter resources.
Why Foster?
Fostering goes beyond offering a temporary shelter; it’s about creating a nurturing environment where pets can recover and thrive outside of the stressful shelter setting. By opening your home, you help free up space for more animals in need, making a lasting impact in the community.
Support for Foster Heroes
AHS makes fostering easy by providing all necessary medical supplies, medications, and other essentials like food, blankets, and toys (based on availability). Foster caregivers also receive ongoing support from AHS staff to ensure a smooth experience, whether it’s medical care or advice on managing unique situations.
Can Foster Pets Interact with Your Own Pets?
Introducing foster pets to your own animals should be done cautiously. AHS recommends keeping foster pets separated from household pets for the first 10–14 days to ensure everyone’s safety. After this period, gradual introductions are possible, depending on the pet’s needs and recovery. AHS staff will guide you through the process.
Considering Adoption?
Many foster families fall in love with the animals they care for, and AHS makes the transition seamless. Foster caregivers are given the first right to adopt their foster pets. AHS also offers the Home-to-Home Heroes program, where foster caregivers can help facilitate adoptions within their network of friends or family.
Becoming a Foster Hero is an incredibly rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of pets in Arizona. If you’re ready to create a positive impact, join AHS today and be a part of a compassionate community working to save lives.
