Babysitter Arrested After 1-Year-Old Nearly Drowns in Bathtub in El Mirage

The El Mirage Police Department have arrested a babysitter after an infant in her care was pulled from a bathtub in El Mirage.

On the night of June 16, a report from the El Mirage Police Department said a mother dropped off her three children at Cynthia Gaddy’s home nearĀ 127th Avenue and Thunderbird.

Around 8:30 p.m., Gaddy, 49, was bathing the 1-year-old boy and at some point left the bathroom because she got distracted by something in the kitchen and the baby was unattended. When she returned she found the child underwater and unresponsive. First responders resuscitated the child.

The boy was taken to a local hospital by the fire department and later airlifted to Phoenix Children’s and is in extremely critical condition. The babysitter was watching two other kids, ages 3 and 7, who are siblings of the 1-year-old.

Gaddy is accused of child endangerment.
