Baby Found Safe After Amber Alert in Peoria, Mother Dead, Police Looking For Father

Peoria Police issued an Amber Alert just before midnight last night for a baby boy in hopes the public could help locate them after an abduction turned deadly.

10-month-old son Abel Maes was found safe after the father, who is still on the loose and did not have custody of the child, kidnapped the boy from the mother.

Officers around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the mother, 30-year-old Brittany Martie of Phoenix, was loading her 10-month-old son Abel Maes into a vehicle near 91st Avenue and Deer Valley Road. Eric Maes of Sun City stole the car with the boy still inside. Many bystanders called 911 with reports of a woman holding onto a vehicle as it drove down the road. Officers located Martie who had life-threatening injuries from being thrown off the car. Medics took the woman to the hospital, where she later died.

Eric Maes abandoned the vehicle in the area of 25th Avenue and Cactus Road in Phoenix. He was seen running with a baby.

Phoenix Fire Department responded to the area of 21st and Dunlap avenues around 1 a.m. Wednesday for reports of an abandoned child. Police have confirmed the child to be Abel.

Police are still searching for Maes. Police said Eric Maes is white, 5’11”, 140 pounds, 30 years old, and has brown hair and brown eyes. If you see him, call 911 immediately, he is considered dangerous.
