Avoid getting Sick This Winter, Disinfect Your Smartphone

If you’re trying to decrease your chance of getting sick this holiday season, you may want to disinfect your cell phone regularly.

“We touch our phones on average 96 times a day,” Nicole Miller, a spokeswoman for tech care company Asurion, told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “Imagine all of the other surfaces we touch.”

Miller says there are several ways to clean your phone and get rid of germs without damaging it.

One way is to wipe it down daily using disinfecting wipes or lint-free microfiber cloths, the kind used to clean glasses.

For those who want a more precise clean, use water and alcohol and lightly wipe it down. Miller says to turn off your phone and remove the case when doing so.

Another quick way is to use a UV sanitizing device, which uses ultraviolet light to kill 99.9% of germs in 10 minutes while also charging the phone.

Miller added that there are other ways to avoid having to constantly clean your phone, like putting it down.

Nearly 45% of Americans text, talk or check their phone while on the toilet, according to Asurion.

Another 60% admit to pulling out their phones at the table while out eating or drinking with others.
