Authorities in Gila County are searching for a person of interest following the New Year’s Day shooting that claimed the life of a juvenile in Globe. The incident unfolded just after 1 a.m. Thursday, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the Central Heights neighborhood on McKinney Avenue, where a group had gathered to celebrate the holiday.
According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), a 911 caller reported that his friend had been shot by an unknown suspect. The victim, whose identity has not been released due to age, was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries but later died that afternoon.
Investigators say the shooter may have fled the area on foot before being picked up by a vehicle. Detectives have since identified 19-year-old Deshawn Tarango as a person of interest in the case and are asking for the public’s help in locating him.
Anyone with information regarding Tarango’s whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the shooting is urged to contact the GCSO Detectives Division at 928-402-1872.
Authorities have not released additional details, and the investigation remains ongoing. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available through official GCSO channels.
